As you will know, I'm a carer for my Mum who has severe dementia. I have always tried to maintain a little independence for her even though she struggles every day to do basic things.

The one thing that Mum loves to do is to bake cakes. Anything from fairy cakes to gorgeous cupcakes. This makes her really happy and helps give her a purpose. I know it's superficial to those of us that don't have dementia ourselves, but to the dementia sufferer little things like this really brighten their day.

Well it has helped mum up until Friday this week when our oven decided enough is enough and gave up the ghost.

She's actually devastated that she can't make her usual contribution to the house - I've never seen anything prouder than when she offers one of her cakes to visitors.

Anyway, the oven packed in, and to repair it will cost nearly £200, money which we can't afford. It's a gas oven too, so although I love Mum doing her bit, it's always worried me that she might forget to turn it off etc.

So, I wondered if the angels here can help me. I found a combination oven which has a fan oven for just £70 which will fit perfectly in the kitchen, is totally safe for a dementia sufferer to use (no more gas) and what will brighten her day again.
